The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 And when the mountains are removed 3 when ten-month pregnant camels are left untended, 4 when the savage beasts are gathered 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 And when the souls are paired 7 And when the girl buried alive shall be asked: 8 For what crime she was put to death; 9 when the scrolls shall be unrolled, 10 The curtain drawn back from the skies, 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 And when the garden is brought nigh, 13 Every soul will then come know what it has brought. 14 But nay! I swear by the stars, 15 And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, 16 And the close of night, 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger, 19 of power, given a rank by the Owner of the Throne 20 obeyed by (all creatures) and faithful to His trust. 21 And (O people) your companion (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is not a madman; 22 he indeed saw the message-bearer on the clear horizon; 23 nor does he grudge (conveying this knowledge about) the Unseen; 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds: 27 So let those who want, choose the right guidance 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
