The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun is wound up; 1 when the stars are thrown down, 2 And when the hills are moved, 3 when ten-month pregnant camels are left untended, 4 And when the wild animals are made to go forth, 5 And when the seas rise, 6 And when the souls are paired 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 For what sin she was killed? 9 when the scrolls shall be unrolled, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 and when the blazing fire [of hell] is kindled bright, 12 And when Paradise is brought near, 13 then shall each person know what he has brought along. 14 No! I swear by the slinkers, 15 the runners, the sinkers, 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 and brightening morning, 18 Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger, 19 of power, given a rank by the Owner of the Throne 20 there he is obeyed and held trustworthy. 21 Your companion is not possessed; 22 He had surely seen Him on the clear horizon. 23 And he is of the unseen not a tenacious concealer. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 Then where are you going? 26 This is nothing but a Reminder to the worlds, 27 For whoever wills among you to take a right course. 28 but your wishing will not avail unless Allah, the Lord of the Universe, so wishes. 29
