The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun Kuwwirat (wound round and lost its light and is overthrown). 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 and the mountains have been taken, 3 when ten-month pregnant camels are left untended, 4 And when the wild beasts are gathered 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 And when the souls are paired 7 when the buried female infant is asked 8 For what crime she was killed; 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 the heavens are unveiled, 11 And when hell is further enflamed. 12 and when paradise is brought into view: 13 [then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. 14 So I swear by the retreating stars - 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 and sit during the day, or by the darkening night 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 [That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger 19 [Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position], 20 Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the heavens). 21 Your companion is not one possessed: 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 and he is not one to begrudge others the knowledge [of whatever has been revealed to him] out of that which is beyond the reach of human Perception. 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 Where then are you going? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. 29
