The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun Kuwwirat (wound round and lost its light and is overthrown). 1 And when the stars fall, dispersing, 2 when the mountains shall be set moving, 3 when the pregnant camels are neglected, 4 the wild beasts are herded together, 5 When the oceans boil over with a swell; 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked 8 For what sin she was slain. 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 when Paradise is brought near, 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 Moving swiftly and hiding themselves, 16 And the night when it departs, 17 and brightening morning, 18 it is indeed the word of an Honorable Messenger, 19 Owner of power, and high rank with (Allah) the Lord of the Throne, 20 there he is obeyed and held trustworthy. 21 For, this fellow-man of yours is not a madman: 22 And indeed he saw him on the clear horizon. (Prophet Mohammed saw Angel Jibreel in his true shape – peace and blessings be upon them). 23 Nor of the unseen is he a tenacious concealer. 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 Where then are you going? 26 This is a reminder for all the peoples of the world, 27 to everyone of you who wills to walk a straight way. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
