The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 when the stars are thrown down, 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 when ten-month pregnant camels are left untended, 4 And when the wild beasts are gathered 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 when the buried female infant is asked 8 For what sin she was killed, 9 when the scrolls shall be unrolled, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 and when the blazing fire [of hell] is kindled bright, 12 when Paradise shall be brought nigh, 13 Every soul will then come know what it has brought. 14 But nay! I swear by the stars, 15 And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, 16 And by the night as it departs; 17 and brightening morning, 18 truly this is the word of a noble Messenger 19 Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne, 20 Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the heavens). 21 Your companion is not one possessed: 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 he is not niggardly of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 So whither do you stray? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 for whosoever of you who would go straight; 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
