The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 And when the stars darken, 2 when the mountains shall be set in motion, 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 And when the wild beasts are gathered 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 for what sin she was killed, 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 And when the heaven has its covering removed, 11 And when hell is further enflamed. 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 then every soul will discover the consequence of its deeds. 14 No indeed; I swear by the alternating stars 15 Who move straight and stop. 16 And by the night when it departeth, 17 by the dawn sighing, 18 that the Quran is the word of the honorable angelic, mighty Messenger 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the heavens). 21 And your companion is not [at all] mad. 22 He had surely seen Him on the clear horizon. 23 and he is not one to begrudge others the knowledge [of whatever has been revealed to him] out of that which is beyond the reach of human Perception. 24 This is not the utterance of an accursed devil. 25 So where are you going? 26 It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. 29
