The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun shall be folded up, 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 and the mountains have been taken, 3 And when full-term she-camels are neglected 4 the wild beasts are herded together, 5 And when the seas are filled with flame 6 when the souls are divided into different classes, 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 for what sin she was killed, 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped, 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 And when the Garden is brought near;- 13 then shall a soul know what it has produced. 14 But nay! I swear by the stars, 15 Who move straight and stop. 16 and by the night as it recedes, 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 who is obeyed there and is worthy of trust. 21 And your comrade is not mad. 22 And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon. 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 Nor is it the word of the cursed Shaitan, 25 Where then will you go? 26 It is nothing but Good Counsel for everyone in the world, 27 For whoever wills among you to take a right course. 28 However, you will not be able to choose anything unless God, Lord of the Universe wills it to be so. 29
