The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun shall be darkened, 1 And when the stars shall fall; 2 the mountains are scattered about as dust, 3 And when the she-camels big with young shall be abandoned, 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 the oceans are brought to a boil, 6 And when the souls are paired 7 And when the female infant buried alive is asked 8 For what crime she was killed; 9 and when the scrolls [of men's deeds] are unfolded, 10 the heavens are unveiled, 11 and Hell is stoked, 12 And when Paradise is brought near. 13 Then every soul shall know that which it hath presented. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 that hide, 16 and by the night as it recedes, 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 obeyed, moreover trusty. 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 Surely he beheld Him on the clear horizon. 23 nor does he grudge (conveying this knowledge about) the Unseen; 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 Where then will you go? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 for everyone of you who wishes to follow the Straight Way; 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
