The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 And when the stars darken, 2 when the mountains shall be set moving, 3 when the ten-months pregnant camels shall be abandoned, 4 the wild beasts are herded together, 5 And when the seas are filled with flame 6 And when souls are united, 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 for what sin she was killed, 9 the records of deeds are made public, 10 and when Heaven is laid bare; 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 And when the garden is brought nigh, 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 And the morning when it brightens, 18 That this is indeed the word of an honoured Messenger, 19 Owner of power, and high rank with (Allah) the Lord of the Throne, 20 One (to be) obeyed, and faithful in trust. 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 Surely he beheld Him on the clear horizon. 23 he is not grudging of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 So whither do you stray? 26 This is nothing but a Reminder to the worlds, 27 for whosoever of you would go straight, 28 but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. 29
