The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
When the sun is folded up, 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 The ten-month pregnant female camels are abandoned, 4 When the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations); 5 And when the seas rise, 6 when the souls are coupled (to their body), 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 for what crime she had been slain, 9 and when the scrolls [of men's deeds] are unfolded, 10 And when the heaven has its covering removed, 11 And when the hell is kindled up, 12 and Paradise is brought near, 13 then shall each person know what he has brought along. 14 Rather, I swear by the returning 15 And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, 16 and by the night as it recedes, 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 who is honored in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 Obeyed and worthy there of trust. 21 And your comrade is not mad. 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 So let those who want, choose the right guidance 28 And you will not, unless (it be) that Allah wills, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 29
