The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; 1 when the stars are thrown down, 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 And when the camels big with young are abandoned, 4 And when the wild animals are made to go forth, 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 When souls are reunited (with the bodies) 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 Upon what sin was she killed for. 9 And when the pages are made public 10 when heaven shall be stripped off; 11 When Hell is set ablaze, 12 when Paradise shall be brought nigh, 13 [on that Day] every human being will come to know what he has prepared [for himself]. 14 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, 15 And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, 16 and sit during the day, or by the darkening night 17 And by the morning when it shineth forth, 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 The processor of strength, having an honorable place with the Lord of the Dominion, 20 The one who is obeyed, and trustworthy. (Other angels obey angel Jibreel). 21 And your companion is not insane. 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Where then are you going? 26 This is merely a reminder to all mankind; 27 For whoever wills among you to take a right course. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
