The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Woe to the defrauders, 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, exact full measure, 2 but when they measure or weigh for others, they reduce! 3 Do they not think that they will be resurrected 4 On a grievous day, 5 A Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what will make you know what the Sijjin is? 8 it is a written record. 9 Woe on that Day to those who belied it, 10 Who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 And none deny it except every sinful transgressor. 12 And when Our revelations are rehearsed unto him, he saith: fables of the ancients! 13 Nay! But on their hearts is the Ran (covering of sins and evil deeds) which they used to earn. 14 Yes indeed – they will be deprived of seeing their Lord on that day. 15 Then, verily they will indeed enter and taste the burning flame of Hell. 16 And it will be said (unto them): This is that which ye used to deny. 17 Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin. 18 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Illiyun is? 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah). 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight, 22 On adorned couches, observing. 23 thou knowest in their faces the radiancy of bliss 24 as they are given to drink of a wine sealed 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 and whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 A fountain whereof will drink those brought nigh. 28 Those in sin used to laugh at those who believed, 29 when they passed by them, they would wink at one another; 30 and when they returned to their people they returned blithely, 31 And upon seeing the Muslims, they used to say, “Indeed they have gone astray.” 32 And withal, they have no call to watch over [the beliefs of] others... 33 So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, 34 while reclining on couches and reviewing (the bounties given to them). 35 Have those who deny the truth [not] been paid back for their deeds? 36
