The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 when they measure against the people, take full measure 2 but who, when they measure or weigh for others, give less than their due. 3 Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up? 4 For a mighty day, 5 A Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 Indeed! The record of the wicked is in the Sijjin -- 7 And what will make you know what Sijjin is? 8 A book inscribed. 9 Woe, that Day, to those that deny- 10 Those who deny the Day of Judgment 11 Yet none gives the lie to it except the transgressor immersed in sin; 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 Nay, but their hearts are corroded by all [the evil] that they were wont to do! 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Then they will indeed burn in Hell. 16 Then it shall be said to them, 'This is that you cried lies to.' 17 Indeed the record of the virtuous is in the highest place, the Illiyin. 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 A book inscribed, 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight, 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 Thou wilt know in their faces the radiance of delight. 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 which have the fragrance of musk. This is the kind of place for which one should really aspire. 26 and its mixture is Tasneem, 27 A fountain from which only they who are honoured drink. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And wink one to another when they passed them; 30 And when they went back to their people turned to make fun of them; 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. 33 But on this Day the believers will laugh at the unbelievers 34 [for, resting in paradise] on couches, they will look on [and say to themselves]: 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
