The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 those who, when they are to receive their due from [other] people, demand that it be given in full 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 Do such (men) not consider that they will be raised again 4 For a tremendous Day - 5 The Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 A book inscribed. 9 Woe, that Day, to the deniers, 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 who, when Our verses are recited to him, says: “Mere tales of olden times!” 13 By no means! Aye! encrusted upon their hearts is that which they have been earning. 14 No indeed, on that Day they shall be veiled from their Lord. 15 Then lo! they verily will burn in hell, 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 However, the records of the deeds of the virtuous ones will certainly be in Illiyin. 18 And what will make you know what the highest Iliyin is? 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 witnessed by all who have [ever] been drawn close unto God. 21 Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure 22 On thrones, they shall gaze; 23 You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure. 24 They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed. 25 whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that – 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 when they passed by them, they would wink at one another; 30 And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. 31 And when they saw them, they said: "They have indeed gone astray." 32 No one has appointed them to watch over the believers. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 while reclining on couches and reviewing (the bounties given to them). 35 Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? 36
