The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 Who, when they take the measure (of their dues) from men take it fully, 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 What! Do they not expect that they will be raised? 4 On a mighty Day. 5 The day when everyone will stand before the Lord Of The Creation. 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is? 8 It is a written book. 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 Those who deny the Day of Justice. 11 Yet none gives the lie to it except the transgressor immersed in sin; 12 When Our Signs are rehearsed to him, he says, "Tales of the ancients!" 13 No indeed! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 On the Day of Judgment, they will certainly be barred from the mercy of their Lord. 15 then they shall enter the Fire of Hell, 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 No indeed! Verily, the deeds of the virtuous shall be in the record of the exalted ones. 18 Would that you knew what Illiyin is! 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 To which bear witness those brought nigh. 21 Behold, [in the life to come] the truly virtuous will indeed be in bliss: 22 On adorned couches, observing. 23 You can trace on their faces the joy of their bliss. 24 They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed, 25 The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete. 26 and whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 A spring whereof drink those nearest to Allah. 28 The sinners indeed laughed at believers 29 and winked at one another as they passed them by. 30 and when they returned to their people they returned blithely, 31 And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost." 32 But they had not been sent as keepers over them! 33 So, the believers will laugh at the infidels on that day, 34 On high couches, gazing. 35 Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do? 36
