The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do such (men) not consider that they will be raised again 4 (To be raised) for a Great Day? 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 Woe to them! Let them know that the records of the sinner's deeds are in Sijin. 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 A written record. 9 Woe on that day to the rejecters, 10 Those who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 No indeed! The truth is that their hearts have become rusted on account of their evil deeds. 14 Nay, verily, from [the grace of] their Sustainer shall they on that Day be debarred; 15 then they shall roast in Hell. 16 Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny." 17 No indeed! Verily, the deeds of the virtuous shall be in the record of the exalted ones. 18 And what do you know what the Record of the exalted ones is? 19 a written record, 20 witnessed by those brought nigh. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss. 24 as they are given to drink of a wine sealed 25 The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete. 26 It (that wine) will be mixed with Tasnim. 27 a fountain at which those brought near (to their Lord) drink. 28 Behold, the sinners were laughing at the believers, 29 When passing by them, they would wink at one another 30 and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting, 31 And when they saw them, they said: "Verily! These have indeed gone astray!" 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, 34 On Thrones (of Dignity) they will command (a sight) (of all things). 35 Are not the disbelievers paid (fully) for what they used to do? 36
