The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
WOE UNTO THOSE who give short measure: 1 Those who when they take the measure from others, take it in full! 2 But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do such (men) not consider that they will be raised again 4 (To be raised) for a Great Day? 5 The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Indeed the ledger of the wicked will be in (the lowest depths) Sijjin. 7 And what can make you know what is sijjeen? 8 A written record. 9 Woe on that Day to those who belied it, 10 and those who have rejected the Day of Judgment. 11 Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor, 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 Nay, but their hearts are corroded by all [the evil] that they were wont to do! 14 Verily, from (the Light of) their Lord, that Day, will they be veiled. 15 Then lo! they verily will burn in hell, 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 But, the record of the righteous is [preserved] in the 'Illiyyin -- 18 Ah, what will convey unto thee what 'Illiyin is! - 19 A record of good deeds written. 20 To which bear witness those brought nigh. 21 Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss: 22 On couches face to face. 23 Thou wilt recognize in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: 25 The seal thereof will be Musk: And for this let those aspire, who have aspirations: 26 And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which do drink those brought nigh. 28 The wicked used to laugh at the believers -- 29 And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. 30 And when they went back to their people turned to make fun of them; 31 And upon seeing the Muslims, they used to say, “Indeed they have gone astray.” 32 And withal, they have no call to watch over [the beliefs of] others... 33 So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, 34 upon couches gazing. 35 Are not the disbelievers paid (fully) for what they used to do? 36
