The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe to those that deal in fraud,- 1 those who, when they take from others by measure, take their full share; 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do they not realise that they will be raised to life 4 for a great Day, 5 The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen. 7 Would that you knew what Sijin is!? 8 A record of misdeeds written. 9 Woe, on that day, to those who have rejected God's revelations 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. 14 Yes indeed – they will be deprived of seeing their Lord on that day. 15 They will suffer the heat of fire 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 And what will explain to thee what 'Illiyun is? 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 Indeed the virtuous are in serenity. 22 upon couches gazing; 23 You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine, sealed, 25 pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: 26 and whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink. 28 The sinners had been laughing at the believers. 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 And when they saw them, they said: Most surely these are in error; 32 But they (disbelievers, sinners) had not been sent as watchers over them (the believers). 33 So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, 34 On adorned couches, observing. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
