The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Woe to those who are fraudulent in (weighing and measuring), 1 those who, when they take from others by measure, take their full share; 2 but when they measure or weigh for others, they reduce! 3 Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), 4 on a great day 5 when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay! most surely the record of the wicked is in the Sijjin. 7 And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is? 8 A Register inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 for, none gives the lie to it but such as are wont to transgress against all that is [and are] immersed in sin: 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." 13 No indeed! The truth is that their hearts have become rusted on account of their evil deeds. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 And it will be said (unto them): This is that which ye used to deny. 17 No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun. 18 And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun? 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah). 21 The righteous shall indeed be blissful, 22 On couches, gazing, 23 Thou wilt recognise in their faces the beaming brightness of Bliss. 24 They will be served a drink of the finest sealed wine, 25 whose seal is musk -- so after that let the strivers strive -- 26 It (that wine) will be mixed with Tasnim. 27 The spring from which drink the ones close to Allah. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And whenever they passed by them, used to wink at each other (in mockery); 30 and when they returned to their people they returned blithely, 31 and when they saw them they said, 'Lo, these men are astray!' 32 Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. 33 But on this Day the believers will laugh at the unbelievers 34 [for, resting in paradise] on couches, they will look on [and say to themselves]: 35 Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did? 36
