The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Woe to the diminishers, 1 Who, when they take the measure (of their dues) from men take it fully, 2 But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss. 3 Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), 4 on a great day 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And what can make you know what is sijjeen? 8 It is a written book. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. 14 Verily, from (the Light of) their Lord, that Day, will they be veiled. 15 Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. 16 and be told: "This is the [very thing] to which you were wont to give the lie!" 17 But, the Book of the righteous is in the 'Illiyoon. 18 And what could make thee conceive what that mode most lofty will be? 19 It is a Book inscribed, 20 which those angels closest to God will bear witness to. 21 Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss: 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They shall be given to drink of a wine that is sealed, 25 The seal thereof will be of musk. And to this end let the aspirers aspire 26 and whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink. 28 Indeed the guilty used to laugh at the believers. 29 And winked at one another as they passed by them; 30 and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting, 31 and when they saw them they said, 'Lo, these men are astray!' 32 And they were not sent to be keepers over them. 33 This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers, 34 On adorned couches, observing. 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
