The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 those who, when they are to receive their due from [other] people, demand that it be given in full 2 but when they measure or weigh for others, they reduce! 3 What! Do they not expect that they will be raised? 4 [and called to account] on an awesome Day 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay! most surely the record of the wicked is in the Sijjin. 7 And what can make you know what is sijjeen? 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Woe, that Day, to the deniers, 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 Yet none gives the lie to it except the transgressor immersed in sin; 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 They will never have faith. In fact, their hearts are stained from their deeds. 14 By no means! Verily on that Day from their Lord they will be shut out. 15 Then they will indeed burn in Hell. 16 Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny." 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 And what do you know what the Record of the exalted ones is? 19 It is a written book, 20 Witnessed by those who are honoured. 21 The virtuous will live in bliss, 22 On thrones, watching. 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They shall be given to drink of a wine that is sealed, 25 pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: 26 With the wine is a drink from Tasnim, 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: 29 And when they passed by them, they winked at one another. 30 And when they returned to their own folk, they returned jesting; 31 and when they saw them they said, 'Lo, these men are astray!' 32 Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 On (high) thrones, looking (at all things). 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
