The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, 2 but when they give by measurement or weight to others, they give them less. 3 Do they not realize that they will be resurrected 4 on a Great Day, 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - 7 How will you comprehend what Sijjin is? 8 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed. 9 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 No. In fact what they have been doing has rusted their hearts. 14 Nay! Surely, they (evil-doers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day. 15 They will suffer the heat of fire 16 and they will be told, "This is what you were wont to belie." 17 By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in 'Illiyun. 18 And what do you know what the Illiyoon are! 19 A Register inscribed. 20 which those angels closest to God will bear witness to. 21 Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure 22 On Thrones (of Dignity) will they command a sight (of all things): 23 Thou wilt recognise in their faces the beaming brightness of Bliss. 24 They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed. 25 whose seal is musk -- so after that let the strivers strive -- 26 With the wine is a drink from Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which do drink those brought nigh. 28 Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 When passing by them, they would wink at one another 30 and whenever they return to people of their own kind, they return full of jests; 31 and whenever they see those [who believe,] they say: "Behold, these [people] have indeed gone astray!" 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 as they sit on couches, gazing around. 35 Are not the disbelievers paid (fully) for what they used to do? 36
True are the words of God the Almighty.
