The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 And when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do they not realize that they will be resurrected 4 for a great Day, 5 A Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 Indeed, the record of the disbelievers is in the lowest place, the Sijjeen. 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth 10 and those who have rejected the Day of Judgment. 11 Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor, 12 When you recite Our verses to him, he says, “Stories of earlier men!” 13 No! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 Yes indeed – they will be deprived of seeing their Lord on that day. 15 and then they shall enter Hell, 16 It will then be said, “This is what you used to deny.” 17 Nay, verily the record of the Righteous is (preserved) in 'Illiyin. 18 And what will explain to thee what 'Illiyun is? 19 A book inscribed, 20 witnessed by all who have [ever] been drawn close unto God. 21 The virtuous will surely be in bliss, 22 [resting on couches, they will look up [to God]: 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed. 25 Its seal is upon musk; and for this should those who crave be eager. 26 With the wine is a drink from Tasnim, 27 A fountain whereof will drink those brought nigh. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 And wink one to another when they passed them; 30 And when they went back to their people turned to make fun of them; 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 (they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them. 33 So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, 34 Regarding them from their cushioned seats. 35 Have the unbelievers been duly rewarded for their deeds? 36
