The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 Whilst when they measure or weigh for them, give less. 3 Do they not think they will be raised (to life) again 4 on a fateful Day. 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what do you know, how (wretched) the Sijjeen is! 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Woe on that day to the rejecters, 10 Those that deny the Day of Judgment. 11 for, none gives the lie to it but such as are wont to transgress against all that is [and are] immersed in sin: 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do! 14 No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord, 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 Further, it will be said to them: "This is the (reality) which ye rejected as false! 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 And what will make you know what the highest Iliyin is? 19 A record of good deeds written. 20 To which bear witness those brought nigh. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 Reclining on couches, looking on. 23 You will recognize in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed. 25 whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that – 26 And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, 27 a source [of bliss] whereof those who are drawn close unto God shall drink. 28 Verily those who have sinned were wont at those who had believed to laugh, 29 and whenever they pass by them, they wink at one another [derisively]; 30 And when they returned to their own folk, they returned jesting; 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 And withal, they have no call to watch over [the beliefs of] others... 33 So this day it is the believers who laugh at the disbelievers. 34 [for, resting in paradise] on couches, they will look on [and say to themselves]: 35 Are not the disbelievers paid (fully) for what they used to do? 36
