The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Woe to the stinters; 1 when they measure against the people, take full measure 2 but when they give by measurement or weight to others, they give them less. 3 Do they not think that they will be resurrected 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - 7 And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is? 8 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record. 9 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 10 Those that deny the Day of Judgment. 11 Yet none gives the lie to it except the transgressor immersed in sin; 12 When Our communications are recited to him, he says: Stories of those of yore. 13 No. In fact what they have been doing has rusted their hearts. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 then they shall enter the Fire of Hell, 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 However, the records of the deeds of the virtuous ones will certainly be in Illiyin. 18 And what will explain to thee what 'Illiyun is? 19 (It is) a marked Book, 20 which those angels closest to God will bear witness to. 21 Behold, [in the life to come] the truly virtuous will indeed be in bliss: 22 reclining on couches, reviewing (the bounties given to them). 23 Thou wilt recognize in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 as they are given to drink of a wine sealed 25 Its seal is upon musk; and for this should those who crave be eager. 26 a wine whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 a source [of bliss] whereof those who are drawn close unto God shall drink. 28 Verily those who have sinned were wont at those who had believed to laugh, 29 And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. 30 and whenever they return to people of their own kind, they return full of jests; 31 And upon seeing the Muslims, they used to say, “Indeed they have gone astray.” 32 But they (disbelievers, sinners) had not been sent as watchers over them (the believers). 33 This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers, 34 On high thrones, watching. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded for what they did? 36
