The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
WOE UNTO THOSE who give short measure: 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do such (men) not consider that they will be raised again 4 On a grievous day, 5 the Day when all men shall stand before the Sustainer of all the worlds? 6 Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record. 9 Woe, that Day, to those that deny- 10 Who call the Day of judgement a lie! 11 No one denies it except for the evil aggressor. 12 When Our communications are recited to him, he says: Stories of those of yore. 13 Nay! rather, what they used to do has become like rust upon their hearts. 14 On the Day of Judgment, they will certainly be barred from the mercy of their Lord. 15 Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. 16 and be told: "This is the [very thing] to which you were wont to give the lie!" 17 Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil), is (preserved) in 'Illiyyun. 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 a written record, 20 witnessed by those who are near (to Allah). 21 Verily the pious will be in heaven, 22 On thrones, watching. 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They shall be given to drink of a wine that is sealed, 25 The seal thereof will be of musk. And to this end let the aspirers aspire 26 a wine whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 And winked at one another as they passed by them; 30 and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting, 31 And upon seeing the Muslims, they used to say, “Indeed they have gone astray.” 32 Whereas they were not sent over them as watchers. 33 so today those who believe shall [be able to] laugh at those who denied the truth 34 as they (recline) upon their couches and gaze (around them). 35 Did not the disbelievers get repaid for what they used to do? 36
