The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 And obeys its Lord and it must. 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But as for he who is given his record behind his back, 10 He shall call for perdition, 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing. 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 No, the unbelievers only belie, 22 And Allah knows best what they hide, 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
