The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 But he who is given his Book from behind his back 10 Will pray for death, 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 [That] you will surely experience state after state. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
