The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 Will have an easy reckoning, 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But as for he who is given his record behind his back, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 and he shall roast at a Blaze. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 you shall proceed onwards from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 In fact, they reject the Quran, 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
