The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 Whoever is given the Record in his right hand 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 They lived among their people joyfully 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe, 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
