The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And the moon when at the full, 18 [That] you will surely experience state after state. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
