The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 he shall surely receive an easy reckoning 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 you shall proceed onwards from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]? ۩ 21 No, the unbelievers only belie, 22 And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. 25
