The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the heaven bursts asunder, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 They will suffer the heat of hell fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah]. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 [That] you will surely experience state after state. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
