The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 when earth is stretched out 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 he shall surely receive an easy reckoning 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 but as for him whose record shall be given to him from behind his back, 10 they will say, "Woe to us!" 11 and he shall roast at a Blaze. 12 Verily he was among his people joyous. 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness; 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Yea those who disbelieve belie. 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
