The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 will be easy, 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 They will suffer the heat of hell fire. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 [That] you will surely experience state after state. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts) 23 So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
