The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 They will suffer the heat of hell fire. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing. 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 that you will certainly pass through one stage after another. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 In fact, they reject the Quran, 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
