The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O man, indeed you have to surely run towards your Lord, and to meet him. 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 but as for him whose record shall be given to him from behind his back, 10 He shall call for perdition, 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 You will surely go up level by level. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
