The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
25 verses, revealed in Mecca after Shattering (Al-Infitaar) before The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] 2 And when the earth shall be stretched forth. 3 and casts out what is within it and is emptied, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 But as for he who is given his record behind his back, 10 shall call for destruction 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]? ۩ 21 In fact, they reject the Quran, 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 So announce to them a painful torment. 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
