The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O man, having striven hard towards your Lord, you shall meet Him: 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning. 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 And whoever is given his record of deeds behind his back – 10 Will pray for death, 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
