The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning. 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 they will say, "Woe to us!" 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 that you will certainly pass through one stage after another. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 But those who believe and work righteous works, theirs shall be a hire unending. 25
