The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! 5 O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him. 6 Then as to him who shall be given his book in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 and he will return to his family joyfully. 9 But he who is given his Book from behind his back 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 They lived among their people joyfully 13 Never thinking he will return. 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 And when the Qur’an is recited to them, they do not fall prostrate? (Command of Prostration # 13) ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
