The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the heaven breaks apart. 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth shall be stretched forth. 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
