The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 Soon will he cry for perdition, 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 No! I swear by the twilight 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 by the moon, in its fullness 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]? ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
