The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 Will have an easy reckoning, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But as for he who is given his record behind his back, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 This is a fact. Their Lord is Well-Aware of (all that they do). 15 I do not need to swear by the sunset, 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.). 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So announce to them a painful torment. 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
