The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 And as for him whose record shall be placed in his right hand, 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 but as for him whose record shall be given to him from behind his back, 10 Soon will he cry for perdition, 11 They will suffer the heat of hell fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?- 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
