The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 And when the earth shall be stretched forth. 3 and casts out what is within it and is emptied, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 and will return rejoicing to his family. 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 He shall presently call for death, 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 This is a fact. Their Lord is Well-Aware of (all that they do). 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness; 17 And [by] the moon when it becomes full 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So announce to them a painful torment. 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
