The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 and casts out what is within it and is emptied, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 and he will return to his family joyfully. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
