The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the heavens and that which comes in the night -- 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 (It is) the piercing star. 3 There is not a soul that does not have a guardian over it. 4 Let the human being reflect that from what he has been created. 5 He is created from a water dripping, 6 issuing between the loins and the breast-bones. 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 On the Day when man's deepest secrets shall be put to the test 9 Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper. 10 By the heavens, ever-revolving, 11 by the earth cracking open with new growth. 12 this is indeed a Decisive Word, 13 it is no merriment. 14 Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) 15 and I am cunningly devising. 16 So respite the unbelievers; delay with them awhile. 17
