The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sky, and by the nightly comer! 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 It is the piercing star. 3 Over every soul there is a watcher. 4 So let man consider of what he is created: 5 He was created from ejaculated water 6 that issues from between the loins and the ribs. 7 Surely He is able to bring him back 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 and he shall have no strength, no helper. 10 By the heavens, ever-revolving, 11 And the earth which opens up (with verdure), 12 Most surely it is a decisive word, 13 and is not to be taken lightly. 14 Behold, they [who refuse to accept it] devise many a false argument [to disprove its truth]; 15 And I plot a plot (against them). 16 Therefore respite the unbelievers, and delay them for a while. 17
