The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the heavens and that which comes in the night -- 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 It is the shining star -- 3 There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) 4 So let man consider of what he was created. 5 He was created from ejaculated water 6 Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs. 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 A day when the secrets will be examined. 9 He will have no strength or helper. 10 By the Firmament which returns (in its round), 11 and the earth, bursting forth with plants! 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 And is not a matter of amusement. 14 They are cunningly devising, 15 And I am planning a scheme. 16 So respite the unbelievers; delay with them awhile. 17
